We are trying to change the way medical technology reaches the world by making it more agile, user-centered, and democratic. It’s a big challenge—we’re shaking up traditional notions of research to make affordable medical fabrication legitimate. Our impact factor is measured by our impact on the ground and our impact in the clinic, not the publishing cycle. We are developing hardware, a long neglected sector of research funding, but one with an enormous potential to detect and treat disease with available reagents, procedures, and medications.
Your support, no matter how big or small, allows us to launch and sustain projects that are aimed at supporting patients first. Your gift to the Little Devices group through MIT supports scientists, students, community partners and patients in underserved areas of the world and America. It keeps our projects on track, replenished materials such as reagents and prototyping components, as well as the equipment required for fabrication and research...
Last year your support allowed us to:
- Hire students and purchase materials to make Adhere.IO diagnostic tests for tuberculosis patients so they can stay on their medication, and stay alive.
- Purchase the MEDIKit components to distribute, free of charge, foot powered nebulizers in Nicaragua, Ecuador, Nigeria and Ethiopia (if we fly somewhere, we take one!)
- Train rural women in Nicaragua on manufacturing techniques of the Solarclave, which will help clinics in Central America to sterilize medical equipment and foster local jobs.
- Launch the MEDIKit platform from the bench into the field
